MEMORIES OF MARY

(Sarah Middleton-Woolley & Nigel Smith)

Holidays to Blackpool to see the lights
Day trip to Fleetwood, on a tram we would hop
Uncle Tom’s Cabin, shows on ice
Pretend cigarettes from the North Pier shop

The smell of machine oil, leather and fabric
Cotton reels, ribbons, bows, and lace
Buttons, press studs, fastenings, elastic
Collars and cuffs all over the place

(Chorus)
Over the road and down we would reach for the secret latch under the gate
My sister and I on a Saturday night were allowed to stay up late

SOLO

Costumes for the school nativity play
Home-made nighties, skirts and tops
Bunting flags for Silver Jubilee day
Dolls clothes, under slips and party frocks

Advocaat and freshly baked pastries
Big flowery wallpaper of orange and brown
Apple tree, rockery, Livingstone daisies
Figurines, Moorcroft and a coloured glass clown

Over the road and down we would reach for the secret latch under the gate
My sister and I on a Saturday night were allowed to stay up late

Over the road and down we would reach for the secret latch under the gate
My sister and I on a Saturday night were allowed to stay up late
